Google Analytics · visits referred by AI assistants · data through 2026-10-20
Visits that arrived from an AI assistant such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity because it cited or linked to your site — how many, which assistants, what those visitors read, and what they went on to do.
AI visits
What it showsVisits that arrived from an AI assistant — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and the others — because it cited or linked to your site in the selected date range. How to use itThis is the newest way people find you, and small numbers are normal today. Watch the trend more than the count, and compare engagement with your other channels to see whether these are the right visitors. The % change compares this date range with the period of the same length immediately before it.

AI visitors
What it showsHow many distinct people arrived from an AI assistant in the selected date range. How to use itRead it against AI visits: visits well above visitors means the same people are coming back through the assistant, which is a sign the recommendation stuck. The % change compares this date range with the period of the same length immediately before it.

Share of all visits
What it showsAI-referred visits as a share of every visit to your site in the selected date range. How to use itThe cleanest read on whether AI is becoming a real channel for you, because it moves even when total traffic doesn't. Most sites are still under a few percent — the direction matters more than the level. The % change compares this date range with the period of the same length immediately before it.

Conversions from AI
What it showsYour conversion goals completed by visitors who arrived from an AI assistant in the selected date range. How to use itThe number that says whether AI traffic is worth chasing. Only goals tracked through a Google Analytics event can be attributed this way; a goal counted from form submissions can't tell where the visitor came from. The % change compares this date range with the period of the same length immediately before it.

AI search traffic
What it showsVisits that started when an AI assistant — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and the others — cited or linked to your site, day by day and stacked by assistant. The top edge is the total. How to use itRead the dashed trend line, not any single day: the numbers are small and lumpy, and the direction is the story. AI assistants recommend sites they find clear and authoritative, so a rising line usually follows content work. A flat line while Search clicks rise means you rank on Google but aren't being cited yet.Counted from the referring address GA4 records for a visit — chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai and so on. Visitors who read an AI answer and then search for you by name show up under Search, not here.
Holding steadydaily visits, by assistant
Assistants are recognised by the address they send visitors from — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Meta AI, DeepSeek, Grok, Mistral, You.com and Poe. Someone who reads an answer and then types your name into Google counts as branded search, not AI, so this understates AI's real influence.
TRCH AI Search Index
What it showsTRCH's own read on how much AI assistants are shaping your traffic, from 0 (no assistant is sending anyone) to 100 (AI is a leading channel). Presence sets the level: AI's share of all your visits, on a curve where 1% scores 30, 2% about 43, 5% about 70 and 10% scores 100. Three tuners then move that base by up to 20% either way — Momentum (growth of AI visits vs the previous period; doubling is the full push), Breadth (how many assistants sent three or more visits; two is neutral, four is full) and Pull-through (AI's share of your conversions against its share of visits; 1.5× your site average is full, and without GA4-tracked goals it uses engagement instead). The tuners are weighed by volume — full weight at two AI visits a day — so a handful of visits can't swing the score. How to use itRead the band first — Trace, Emerging, Established, Significant, AI-led — then the parts: the Presence bar is the level, and the three rows under it show how much each tuner added or took away. Presence and Breadth grow with content the assistants can cite; Pull-through says whether the visitors they send are the right ones. It is not a comparison with other businesses; it's you against your own previous period.Counted from the referring address GA4 records for a visit — chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai and so on. Visitors who read an AI answer and then search for you by name show up under Search, not here.

By assistant
What it showsEach AI assistant that sent visitors to your site in the selected range: how many visits, the share of those visits where the person stayed and engaged, and how many distinct people. How to use itChatGPT usually dominates, so the interesting reads are the others: an assistant growing from nothing means it has started citing you. Engagement above your site's average is normal here — the assistant already matched the person's need before they arrived.Counted from the referring address GA4 records for a visit — chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai and so on. What AI visitors land on
What it showsThe pages AI assistants send people to — the first page of each AI-referred visit, ranked by visits, with the share of those visits that engaged. How to use itThis is what the assistants think you're the answer for. Deep pages here, not the homepage, is the healthy pattern: an assistant cites the page that answered the question. A page that draws AI visits but keeps few of them is worth a look — the answer they were promised may not be on it.Counted from the referring address GA4 records for a visit — chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, perplexity.ai and so on. Visitors who read an AI answer and then search for you by name show up under Search, not here.
